What Mina Le said is true: Clothes are a lot worse today. I’ll break down this phenomenon in an email soon, but here’s what I really want to get into:
My next panel is taking place at Seven24 Collective next Thursday, April 11, 2024. I am excited to dive into these topics with my brilliant lineup! Sophia Li is a friend and one of the best multimedia journalists I know. She’s someone who truly walks the walk, whether she’s partnering with rental fashion platforms, traveling to far-flung places to visit animal farms or lab-grown diamonds, and participating in the top climate conferences around the world. She introduced me to Jazmine Rogers at a dinner she hosted last year, and I was really moved by Jazmine’s passion for sustainable fashion. Her website Sustainable Baddie has become a personal resource for keeping up with designers, activists and news in the space. Lastly, a recent addition to the lineup: Vishal Duvvuru. He hosts a monthly panel on sustainability at Ludlow House (I’ve attended two of them), and the companies he works for (SuperCircle and Thousand Fell) are leading the charge in technological research and circular economy.
This will no doubt be an insightful conversation with people who live and breathe this work, and I hope you’ll join me! If you’re able to attend, please email hello@nycxclothes.com so I can add you the list. Newsletter subscribers get first dibs on gift bags (because y’all are the best)!
If you can’t make it, no worries—you’ll have access to the recording in my email the following day.
THE WEEK IN NEWS:
Mango’s highest-profile collaboration to date is launching this month. In an attempt to appeal to fashion-forward consumers and move upmarket, the company created a capsule line with Victoria Beckham (I wore one of her dresses at my most recent panel).
You will soon be able to shop Phoebe Philo at Bergdorf Goodman, a move that should hopefully curb the fitting issues and challenges people encountered with returns following the first two drops.
Speaking of female creative directors, Bulgari appointed designer Mary Katrantzou to lead leather goods and accessories design.
Chanel’s exorbitant bag prices explained, barely…
Aimee Song is launching a luxury clothing label, and based on these comments under the BoF announcement, the people are not buying it.
Aurora James is launching a business podcast: Friends & Family
I’m not ready for all the Western-themed collections coming up, but more power to Beyoncé!
Until next week,
